Public Schools Week 2020

Join Learning First Alliance and Our Partners to Celebrate Public Schools

Nine out of 10 students in America attend public schools, and the members of the Learning First Alliance will be celebrating Public Schools Week from February 24-28, 2020 with more events and recognitions to honor our nation’s public schools, our students and the many school professionals who work to help students achieve their greatest potential.

Public Schools Week is a designated week for administrators, teachers, specialists, teacher educators, parents and school board members to host events for their communities and reach out to lawmakers, businesses, and other community members to discuss the importance of public education. Add Public Schools Week 2020 to your school calendar and make plans to join LFA and educators across the United States to show the strength—and potential—of our nation’s public schools and our students’ futures.

Public Schools 2019 recap

During Public Schools Week 2019, educators and community members marked the week with events and outreach to their communities. In Washington, a bipartisan group of lawmakers spoke out on the importance of a strong public education system for our country’s future economic strength, and members of the House and Senate marked the week with resolutions of support.

Capitol Hill events included:
Introduction of H.Res. 254, sponsored by Rep. Mark Pocan of Wisconsin, which supported the designation of March 25-29 as Public Schools Week.
Passage of S.Res.126, sponsored by Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, which also supported the designation of Public Schools Week.
The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) hosted a briefing in honor of Public Schools Week titled “Civil Rights Protections in Public Schools for Students with Disabilities.”

"The Role of Faith Leaders in Public School Advocacy: Supporting public dollars for strong public schools" briefing, was co-sponsored by the Americans United for Separation of Church and State and the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty.
