Alexandria, Va., June 28, 2023 – The American Institutes for Research (AIR) and the Learning First Alliance (LFA) proudly present a three-part podcast series on student safety, engagement and equity. David Osher, Vice President and Institute Fellow at AIR, and Richard Long, Executive Director at LFA, together produced the podcast series that captures the insights of a diverse cohort of students from across the country.

During the summer of 2022, Osher and Long facilitated three thought-provoking conversations with the students. The purpose was twofold: to allow the students to candidly express their perspectives on safety, engagement, and equity in schools, and to provide them the opportunity to listen and learn from each other.

“The Student Voices Podcast Series provides us with deeper insights into students’ experiences and perspectives on safety, engagement, and equity,” said Richard Long. “Hearing firsthand from the students also reinforces the significance of providing platforms for students to share their voices and creating spaces that foster student engagement.”

“Safe and inclusive spaces for students to engage in meaningful conversations about issues that impact them daily are essential to their success and the success of our schools. Understanding the experiences of students is one of the key ways we can know whether our schools are achieving their mission and purpose,” said David Osher. “There is a difference between what people may think is going on in a school and what is experienced by a young person. We need to hear student voices to ensure we are meeting their academic, social, and emotional needs.”
